The Mid-Autumn Festival also known as the moon/mooncake festival is on 10th September this year.
The festival was traditionally a time to enjoy the successful reaping of rice and wheat with food offerings made in honor of the moon. Today, it is still an occasion for outdoor reunions among friends and relatives to eat mooncakes and watch the Moon, a symbol of harmony and unity.
One of our thoughtful students and parents sent Christine (Study links OC) a lovely mooncake all the way from Hong Kong, when James arrived from the airport, he passed it on to the taxi driver we had arranged to take him to school who then passed it on to Christine.
Here are some of the pictures of James, the taxi driver and Christine along with the fabulous moon cake gift. Thank you!
Christine was very pleased with the gift received and will be celebrating the Mid-Autumn festival by getting together with her family and they sit around in a circle to eat (like a moon shape), they then will go out to light candles, lanterns and eat mooncake.
Christine added ‘’We enjoy watching the moon and like to keep traditions, my son has a captain America lantern, and we do a lantern quiz’’
Christine’s sister who is in Hong Kong has sent a wonderful picture of her children starting celebrations where you can see one of the festival decorations and street play holding their lanterns.
The whole Study Links Team send our best wishes to all our friends across the globe celebrating this weekend.
